I coach individuals who are looking to advance or change their careers, are new to management and team building, or those impacted by a reductions-in-force and looking for their next role. Most of my clients are engineers or individuals who work in the software industry. This is not exclusive but aligns with most of my industry experience.
I leverage my decades of experience mentoring and managing people to help my clients identify their key skills, draft a resume they can feel proud of and excited to talk about, and prepare for the challenging interview process. As an engineering leader and hiring manager I've read thousands of resume and interviewed hundreds of candidates in my career. I understand the process and am here to help you through the journey.
Coaching for Engineers
The Process
Managing engineering teams showed me the effectiveness of setting quarterly goals, with weekly iterations and adjustments, to be a great strategy for both project management and career management. I've adopted a similar process with my coaching.
I meet with my clients weekly for 10 sessions over a 3 month period. Each session lasts 50 minutes, virtually over Zoom, plus asynchronous communications over email or Google Docs outside of our discussions for follow-up action items. Research has shown that tangible and lasting change requires between 60-90 days of purposeful action. Ten sessions over a 3 month period give us that time to meet weekly, with some breaks, to achieve results. At the end of the 10 sessions, we evaluate the progress made towards your goals and decide where to go from there. This gives us a fixed deadline with a clear goal to work towards, keeping both of us accountable. In our first meeting we identify your goals, dig into the details and blockers, then we get to work iterating on action items to help you make progress towards the next goal.
An example of how I work with my clients, I help you:
Define and prioritize your career goals.
Craft a career narrative that highlights your strengths while also be truthful and sincere so you can feel proud and comfortable telling your story.
Edit and refine your resume if necessary to that reflect the career narrative while being crisp and concise.
Plan strategies for different interviews and companies.
Navigate the interview process and revise your strategy based on lessons learned.
